We probably all share the same passion, our love for Birds. If you would ask me, I'd say that I do not fit into any category in particular. Yes, I love birds and enjoy spending a day watching birds from inside a bird hideout, I don't mind traveling a bit just to capture a rare bird someone else spotted, but I just as much love to simply fill up my bird feeders and lean back to watch all the action it attracts. For me however, photography is the binding factor, I always think in frames and pictures. Of course, it is fun to capture as many different birds as possible, but capturing a simple Wren or a Tit in some beautiful setting will make me just as happy. My name is Richard and I'm a happily married 60-year-old professional photographer living in Belgium but, I am from Dutch origin and although I have a preference for sports photography, I noticed that the older I get, the more I appreciate nature and the more I enjoy capturing it, especially all those beautiful and colorful birds.

Why the website?

The main reason why I created this website is to have a central spot to share and showcase my bird photos other than Social Media (who really mess up the quality of your pictures) but also to write down my experiences, opinions and adventures Hopefully you'll leave me a comment or feedback every once in a while...so, I will learn from you and who knows, maybe I'm even able to surprise you with some tips and tricks.

When did I start?

I’m what you may call a newbie when it comes to bird knowledge. I do appreciate nature like any other, especially birds. But capturing nature, animals and birds was always a topic on the side for me, as my true passion was to be found in Sports photography, cycling, motorsports and a lot of figure skating over the last decade. However, this year (January 2020) to be precise, I was somewhat bored due to the Christmas holidays. So, my wife suggested to me to go out and try to capture this rare bird, a Dusky Thrush from Siberia (Turdus Eunomus) Somebody spotted it in a nature reserve just around the corner. As a sports photographer, I did own some serious lenses (At least I thought I did), so I made it my task to capture this bird. When I came to the location where the bird was spotted last… I just couldn’t believe what I saw. Over, at least 75 photographers and birders, from all over Europe, came to photograph or spot this bird. Talking to these men and women probably aroused my enthusiasm to follow their lead and after semi-successfully spotting and photographing this rare bird, I was sold to birdwatching and started enjoying and learning more about birds. Spring 2020 I started @Birds_in_Latin to showcase my sightings and I’m learning every single day more about these lovely creatures. Now it’s my turn to share my enthusiasm with others and spread the love for birds, so, check-in regularly and see what’s new.
